The hardest part

I discovered that the hardest part of this cleanse diet is not avoiding sugar or caffeine (which has been tough). What I've found to be the toughest thing is asking for "special" treatment. In my house my husband does most of the cooking and meal planning. He is very good at this and deserves almost all the credit for our daughters being as healthy and fit as they are. I have been more involved in the meal planning as of late, to remind him of what I can and can't have in this phase of my plan. He is very open to all my suggestions and is super supportive of my efforts. It is still hard on me to see him excited by a meal and then me saying "I can't have that." He takes it as a challenge and works with it. At work, for our staff meeting once a week, we have a special friend that brings the whole staff lunch. Luckily, I'm going through this cleanse with 3 other co-workers and we work for my doctor, so there is lots of support there. Lunch for last week didn't happen to be on the cleanse, and the woman that brought it felt bad. I'm such a people pleaser that it is very hard for me to ask for special treatment. So perhaps this project will not just help my physical help, but teach me that I am worth "special" treatment. Which will help me in other ways too.

A day to feel better

My plan for this blog is to record my journey to a healthier me. I currently weigh 300 pounds. I want to lose weight, but this journey is not just about a number on the scale. I need my body to be able to do everything I ask it to do. I'm tired of being tired all the time and maybe missing out what my girls want to be doing, or being too tired to concentrate on what the person I'm talking is saying.
My goals are to lose 10% of my body weight at a time, a very concrete goal. Less concrete are better sleep, more energy, better skin, less inches, and even better sex.
The first step I've taken to this end is to get a blood test to find the foods I'm sensitive to. I discovered that among other things, I'm sensitive to yeast. So, I stopped eating bread and other obviously yeasty things. I cannot express the difference it has made in my health. That will be it's own post on a later day.
The next step I'm taking, with the guidance and full participation of my doctor, is a "cleanse." The first phase is to avoid several food groups that most bring toxins into our bodies. No gluten, no dairy, no corn, no pork, no sugar and perhaps the toughest for me, no black tea. My choices for the next week include chicken breast, turkey, lean beef, and organic eggs. Vegetables (not corn), rice, nuts, and lots of water. There are a few other things on the permitted list, but I can't think of them right now. The reason for the cleanse is to remove toxins from my body. Our environment is full of toxins, scary-non-FDA-approved ones, and other more common ones, that in large amounts (and not so large) cause more subtle problems. To protect itself from these toxins, bodies wrap them in fat. We can't get rid of the fat unless we get rid of the toxins too. So, this is the next step I'm taking.
Come along with me and see how this goes. I'm excited to reach the goals I've set for myself with my health and to see how it is going to further enhance my life.
